From the beginning of his career, the artist has focused, in the development of new languages. Belonging to the first generation of self appointed “contemporary artists” in El Salvador, He’s innovative roll, has given him a sense of responsibility in the new regional scenario.
Walterio's work plays with some essential aspects of our society, our daily lives, and what appears to be the immanence of threatening situations that affect us.
The aesthetic, the order and cleanliness have been characteristic of his work, now the artist introduces the sense of “number”, the idea of account, of measurement, and calculation, somehow referring to the statistics related to violence, but also thinking in how difficult it could be, to modify the patterns of antisocial behavior . As a medium, he uses carefully arranged domestic objects that acquire new meaning in a new context.
His pieces with tonal gradations in monochrome colors, can be read as metaphors for tolerance: a reflection on the respect of ideas, beliefs or practices that may be beyond us. In a society that has been polarized for too long, it seems the new expressions want to walk away from old patterns, and take a closer road to our time.
